 | |  | | ![]() For me, the music from the Sonic The Hedgehog series on the Sega Mega Drive is pretty unbeatable... Not just because of the interweaving melodies, or the general funkiness, but because it's simply perfect for the feeling of the game and the levels.
Also, the soundtrack of Lylat Wars on the N64 deserves a mention, as does most of the music from any given Castlevania game.  | |  | |  |

Also, recently played Mirror's Edge. The music is awesome, but the buyable soundtrack is irritatingly repetative. I don't mind that each track is an arrangement of the original, but every single track has exactly the same singing. It was copy-pasted on to each one and I just got sick of it. I'm listening a lot to Kid Icarus' soundtrack, during these days.
it's composed by Hip Tanaka, and I could go as far as saying that I love it as much as his other more famous work on Metroid, if it wasn't that this latter series is probably my favourite series ever.
...and since we're here (I hope I'm not repeating myself again), the most perfect soundtrack for a game, according to my tastes, is The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker.
For some reasons I feel that the musical arrangements fit amazingly the visual style of the game, in fact every time I listen to the CDs, the environment around me becomes cel shaded. | | | | |

 | |  | | ![]() This thread is not that old by our standards, so I guess it's OK to resurrect it and add a couple of things myself, since I really like video game music (though mostly chiptunes).
First, most of you are probably aware of how good Fallout soundtracks are. Vault Archives is a collection of remastered tracks from the first two Fallout games, slightly modified to give them a more seamless flow. It was released two years ago, but whatever. Freely downloadable here:

Second, the Touhou Project games are gaining more and more popularity in the western world. I have no idea how well known are they here, but they still deserve a mention. Almost all the songs are extremely catchy and memorable, and with 13 main games released + a few spin-offs, there's a lot of good music. Not to mention the incredible community which has created tens of thousand of arranges and remixes over the course of several years. A few of my personal favourites follow:
