And lastly, does anyone else enjoy the compositions of Alexander Brandon as much as I do? His Jazz Jackrabbit and Tyrian soundtracks are especially appealing to me.
Love the Jazz 1 soundtrack, not so much the Jazz 2 one. Didn't he only do one of those, though?

He did Jazz 2 one. (that I think is awesome XD)

Also he did Deus Ex, Unreal I and II, and Bejeweled 3 soundtrack.

My favorite is almost all the stuff composed by Jeremy Soule (All the Modern Elder Scrolls and even a little in Dawn of War)

Jeremy Soule is good. He has composed some great stuff, and he even did a remix of Nobuo Uematsu's "Terra" from Final Fantasy VI.

Heh! The thought just occurred to me about my desktop (on a computer now brain-dead like its user- with much Noctis data trapped within...) posted in the DeskTop Thread on Sept. 27, 2009 - when I was just started in listening to Doujin/Touhou music...

Just listening to the original work by the "Alex" of Touhou.

For me, the music from the Sonic The Hedgehog series on the Sega Mega Drive is pretty unbeatable... Not just because of the interweaving melodies, or the general funkiness, but because it's simply perfect for the feeling of the game and the levels.
Oh my god yes. I don't think the series would have been nearly as memorable without such great tracks, S1-3&K had some of THE BEST music for its generation. The japanese and NA versions of sonic CD were a departure from the usual fare but I thought they were good in their own right.

Also, I challenge you to find a game with better music production using N64 hardware than this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLDJhm4Arzk

Bonus points if it's not a rare game.

Excuse the double post, but I was going through my youtube playlists and it would just be a crime if this were not mentioned!

Note: about half of Sonic 3 music (not Sonic 3eK, that has those particular tracks replaced or heavily edited) was made by Michael Jackson

He was such sonic fan that he pestered Sega to make music for it.

He is uncredited because near the release of the game he started to get bad media attention and whatnot...

After he died people found on his basement lots of sonic stuff

Looking through my soundtracks folder; one of my favourite pieces of music from one of my favourite game soundtracks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6oIwdbqMc8 The game is free, too.

Entirely different genre; I knew as soon as I played Dustforce that I needed to buy the soundtrack: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXH5G_bqrlc

And just to round out a nice 3 (and all indie games, too), Daniel Baranowsky's Super Meat Boy soundtrack: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsnHItrPbJE

[citation needed]
Half the music was started by Michael Jackson, but when he was removed from the project, all the music he created (and didn't finish) was discarded. Also, it's not confirmed as true, anyway. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_3#Michael_Jackson.27s_involvement

Aaaah. I do not want to search for the stuff right now, but there are extensive research that proves that several tracks in Sonic 3 are his (and those same tracks are replaced in S3eK)

Also, after he died some people confirmed that it was true. But I am too lazy to search right now for the proper interviews.

Yes, the Sonic 3&K tracks were cool. I've found some great remixes of some of them on Overclocked Remix.

I love Ari Pulkkinen's music. He is famous for the Angry Birds Theme. You can check out some of his music at his website. The Trine stuff is awesome.

The Alchemia Soundtrack is a bit different, but I really like the first two tracks.

Braid has a nice selection of music.

Please go and download the World of Goo Soundtrack. It is free, and it is great!

You can listen to the entire Minecraft Alpha album online, and purchase if you desire. It features some tracks from Minecraft, and some inspired by Minecraft.

The CaveStory soundtrack is cool, but the CaveStory+ soundtrack is not. Personal opinion.

I loved the soundtrack of Tengen "Fantasy Zone" on the NES. All the music is in this YouTube video. I like playing parts of the first track on my Xaphoon. My favorite track starts at 6:57.

Fate Town Theme 1 and Town Theme 2 have a special place in my celtic-loving heart. (Okay, that sounded weird.)

Floating Islands Game (FIG) is free, really fun, super awesome, and has some cool music. Get it all here.

The free game "Battle for Wesnoth" features some really nice music.

You can listen to the floaty Crayon Physics Deluxe music here. One of the tracks is by Alec Holowka. He does great music. He's one of the duo behind Aquaria.

Electronic music? PPPPPP - The VVVVVV Soundtrack.

If you're into sweet orchestral remixes, check out Video Games Live - Vol. 1 and The Greatest Video Game Music on Amazon.com. I am sure they are on iTunes somewhere as well...

And, lastly, you should get the (free) Sintel soundtrack from Jan Morgenstern's website. I know that's from a (short) movie, not a game. You should watch the (free) movie as well. It is sad. Haha.
a title is a curious thing...

Austin Wintory's "Threshold" from the Journey soundtrack - Not only some of the most beautiful game music, but some of the most beautiful music period.

I've also been listening to Amon Tobin's tracks for Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory soundtrack. Still one of the most unique soundtracks. Not something I could put into a genre, but it's a mix of live-recording samples and electronic beats and effects. Totally sets the mood for a stealthy spy games...

And of course, Bastion wouldn't have its brilliant mood without Darren Korb's soundtrack.

Thanks, Kristos. I didn't know that World of Goo's soundtrack was up for a free download. I adored that game. It's got a some serious themes in it, but it's so cute and charming at the same time. I think the same goes for the score. Dramatic, but still a little playful at times.

Now that's a thread I was unlucky to miss.

I see Full Throttle soundtrack was mentioned here back in 2004.
I'd like to point out an album by The Gone Jackals that counts as an OST for this great adventure and which I literally love: Bone to Pick (I rarely leave home without Legacy playing in my headphones).

John Hallur's ambient for EVE is worth listening to, if you're into that kind of music. And on that note, O.R.B. sountrack too.

I guess we had some Jeremy Soul here, so no links just a mention from a Morrowind TES fanboy.

I was very impressed by first Portal's theme, not only by that GlaDOS little song, but all the music playing in the game was wonderful. I just hope Portal 2 sountrack is as athmospheric (yep haven't played it yet, happy me!).

Prince Of Persia - Warrior Within had some powerful sound in store, but outside the game? Not really that cool for some reason.

Some time back I purchased Ys: The Oath in Felghana on Steam at a discount. I love the game! There's fighting and sadness and a cute girl of course. But, duh, that's not why I'm posting here. The game has some great music. Check out some of the tracks: Ys -The Oath in Felghana- Original Soundtrack Two examples of tracks I really like are Steeling the Will to Fight and Darling Elena.

Apparently there's also some other soundtrack with remixes of some of the music or something.
