Just saw it today, and I have to say I was disappointed. It was done ok, but there was just something off about it. There were a few scenes I enjoyed (namely the narratives, the dialogue seemed weak) and I had a chuckle or two, but I think it's just that HHGTTG is one of those books that, no matter how hard it's tried, can't be properly translated to film.

All in all, I'm glad I finally saw it, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see it again.

I am SO getting banned for this....

I just finished reading "The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy", and I didn't like it.

It was mainly due to the fact that the characters were more caricatures than believable people. And the plotline was also very incoherent.
A big shame, the first few chapters were hilarious, original and very promishing. But unfortunately it lead nowhere. This is one of the books that is written by the characters and not by a writer. And this will lead in a sort of uncontrolable chaos.

Thereby, all the little details, like the content of the Guide itself, is so over-exaggerated. It was fun in the begin, but it became more and more annoying. I get the feeling that the writer was more interested in become a comedian-writer than a original Sci-Fi-writer. And he had talent to create the most strange and impossible things. In my humble opinion, he has to reduce the amount of little gags. They became more important than the story itself.

I don't know how the characters and the storyline will evolve in the next parts, it can be great.
But I don't think I want to spend more time to read this, this first part didn't get my attention to keep me interested in what will happen further.

But on the other side, I do see why these books has many fans worldwide. But it ain't my cup of tea.
who needs titles?

Yup.

It'a radio play, something where you've got to find new ideas every ten seconds.

If you want a more elaborate type of litterature, go read Dune and bore yourself to death.

That's the whole point.

The whole point of it all indeed.

They don't. The whole point was to crash as many fun and absurd situations as the author could in the length of a book, not write a hard-science story.
there's science to be done!

I finished all of those, although I read them in a strange order (Books 5 and 6 and then 1, 2, 3, 4). (Unless it was 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3. I don't remember)

I thought Chapterhouse Dune was pretty good, actually.

But I think that Dune 7, written by Frank Herbert's son, I think, it's crappish. I couldn't read even two pages of it.
