Okay.. Some people probably know about the fact that we're (or maybe more like: ShadowLord) looking into hopper stuff now.. And I began modelling a creature...

<link cd/pngs/megagun/bullbug>
I've nicknamed it "Bullbug"... Because it somehow looks like a bug, and a bit like a bull... Soo...

Now I only need SL to try and add it to NICE... heh heh heh...
whoosh

I can't wait to see it in action.

NICE job, Megagun

Maybe we should keep it somewhat secret what new critters we're adding, and make most of them fairly rare (not existing at all on most planets), though we can say how many new critters we've added. That way folks will be able to hunt for and discover them.

Mega:
I'll need pvlists for each leg, and oh, ideally, the head too, so I can make it look up and down (and maybe side to side).

Like these:

const int mamm_larm_center_p = 22;
const int mamm_larm_center_v = 2;

pvlist mamm_larm[4] = {
{ 0, 1,1,1,1 }, // F-L
{ 2, 1,1,0,0 },
{ 22, 1,0,0,0 },
{0xFFF,0,0,0,0}
};

Here's what that means:
{
{ PolygonNumber, IncludeVert0, IncludeVert1, IncludeVert2, IncludeVert3},
etc
{0xFFF,0,0,0,}
};

0xFFF marks the end. IncludeVert# is 1 to include that vert or 0 not to. So in our example, this means all four vertices of polygon 0 are in the left arm (or left front foot), but only verts 0 and 1 of polygon 2 are, and only vert 0 of polygon 22.

The foobar_center_p and foobar_center_v constants indicate what vertex of what polygon the thing'll be rotated around when it's rotated. In our example, that's a vertex where the arm attaches to the body, so that we can rotate the arm to move it back and forth, etc.

I don't know if there's any easier way to get those, but I was using 'v' on each vertex to find the #s. That takes a little while though, and you have to rotate the model some to make sure you get the right polygons.

You know how far off land is rendered with a blurrier texture than nearby land? Well, in desert terrain all land is blurry :/ It makes seeing distance hard. Some improvements for deserts would rock. Dunes aren't just small hills, they are generally tilted to one side and curved. Sand colour could be made to be lighter than it usually is.
Maybe a few desert animals? The cacti are a nice addon.

It would be useful if there was a key to clear your local target in the drifter. It would help greatly when deciding if a planet is worth going to.

Hmm.. Just double-tap "L" and it'll be allright...

Might make that a shift-L then.. hmm...
who needs titles?

Battlezone-type controls could be nice, too.

I've never played battlezone, or I've forgotten about it, so, what controls does it have?

A few NICE ideas:

- Writing notes requires too much enter pressing, it would be easyer to write the whole note at once.

- Make internally hot planets landable, and just make'em look like craterized plannets with red lava lakes...

- Thunder and rain (maybe some lakes if the temperature is fitting for liquid )on thick atmosphere planets, and make the thick atmosphere planets surface more random please!

- Stars on surfaces of no-atmosphere planets are always white... and in space are in color...
please try to make stars seen from surface colorful as the star class.

- Give more power to the "personal flying device"

Does it keep track of how long it's been between sessions for things like the emergency signal? I've opened noctis once every long while and hoped to see that the rescue ship has arrived, it's been weeks and it hasn't, so if it isn't keeping track of signal time please put that in.

It does that, yes..

Most likely, the rescue ship HAS arrived, and HAS given you 3 grams of Li+.. HOWEVER.. Your ship ran out of it again (It's main power supply for onboard systems? Lithium Eater?), and you have no lithium anymore.....

Tip: try it again..
written by Stellanaut on Feb 22, 2005 23:07
No, the signal hasn't been reset, it's still goin' on and on, meaning no ship has arrived.

Stella, look for a version.txt in your noctis folder and make sure you're using R8 - versions before that had a bug which made help never arrive.

If you called for help before you got R8 and haven't cancelled it since, then you need to use the clear status menu option and call for help again to fix it.

Gotta catch em all! (or not : P)

That's a good plan. It would be less fun discovering new species of creatures if we already saw them before actually being added. New creatures are certainly one thing I'll be happy to see, as the handful in Noctis become somewhat uninteresting after a while.

I also agree with Mcwgogs about writing notes. It would be easier if we had a scrollable screen to enter them into, without being forced to split them up manually. Also, it would be cool if we could apend a signature automatically to guide entries, including the date/time in the noctis galaxy, as well as our name.

I dig the idea about auto-timestamping entries.

And for any features that streamline the process in the future that would require breaking backwards compatabliity I say break it. There's a hell of a lot of stars out there.

Edit!

Also, (the last time I tried NICE was early January) when I put on X-Axis Positioning, it does the same thing as Drifter Invis at the same time. Doh.
