I got Noctis a little while ago and just started playing. The game is excellent, but I have one major hangup (which may be my fault anyway). Every time i leave the program, it forgets all of my progress and resets my position and, well, resets everything. Can anyone help me?

Hmmmmm, it almost sounds like the current.bin is being deleted whenever you close the game. I've never heard of that happening though.

Maybe (I don't know) the current.bin file is marked as read-only for some reason. You can try right-clicking on this file (within the Noctis\data directory) and choosing Properties to check this.

If you can't find any current.bin under Noctis\data, you can try creating a file with any other name in that directory, just to see if you get any error forbidding the creation of files there.

well, there was no current.bin file there, and i can create other files there

If there isn't a current.bin, then it's likely been deleted from the Noctis\data folder. I couldn't really tell you why this is happening.

Hmm, well this is no good, and odd. i know that i didn't delete it though because i just downloaded it again, and it still doesn't exist. As a side note that may be helpful, it does not record photographs either.

Start up the game and fly to another nearby star, then close the game and go back in again to see if you are still around the star. If you aren't then it's likely some kind of problem with your computer thats causing it to erase it after you close the game.
whatever.

Where on your hard drive is the game installed? It really sounds like some sort of bizarre problem with write access.

I think this file does not come with the Noctis distribution; if you download Noctis again you won't get it. It is created after you run Noctis, to save your position for the next time. Why it dissapears... no idea.

bgreman, you may have a point, it IS stored in the "outskirts" of my computer in some crazy subfolder, ill install it somewhere better and try again
written by Aclockworklemon on May 08, 2007 04:22
then again, with no current.bin file at all, this may not be the problem, but ill try anyways

As Barebones said, Noctis doesn't create the current.bin until after you start the game up for the first time, so on a fresh install there won't be one.

woooohoooo, all is well now, most kudos to bgreman, i think, but thanks to all...
