So, is the Noctis galaxy wider one way or the other?

I seem to remember a discussion on this issue...

Yeap, here in this thread:

Short answer:

Nope, but it's shaped like what you would get if you took two flattened cones and stacked them so that their points were facing away from each other.

By flattened I mean that their height (y) is quite a bit less than their radius (x and z).

Heh, upon reading that...so there was a mention there of my Missing Lista 297. http://noctisiv.free.fr/index.php?action=5&body=Lista%20297

Supposedly a S05 star, for some reason. Must be "Out of Range" (as in Skinny glitched the galaxy again, see under +NAN L.Y.)

I also appear to have not updated the first post in that thread to include results from using a slice amount of 40002, instead of 4002, which might be why it was reported as missing there.

(The starmap2 and starmap3 in NICE were run with 40002, and I posted about the correction somewhere or other, but I'm not sure where)

In any case, out of curiosity, I'm re-running Triceratops to see exactly how many systems (all systems, not just systems in the starmap1 database) were rejected as being invalid, and how many were valid.

So then, the galaxy is shorter top to bottom, if y is less than x or z.

Oh, also, what are we looking at in terms of light years?

I wrote a quick piece about Feltyrion a few years ago, I recovered it during my search for notes that could be used with the NICE manual. Here we go:
The Galaxy
The Noctis Galaxy, or “Feltyrion” as it is also called, is best classified as an irregular cluster-galaxy, although it is currently shaped somewhat like a lens; likely because of several past collisions and close encounters with smaller galaxies.
In its present form, Feltyrion harbours somewhere between seventy-five and eighty billion stars, with a diameter of about 180,000 light-years wide and 6,000 light years tall. With other words: it appears larger, but not as compact as the Milky Way galaxy in which Earth resides, which has anywhere between two hundred to four hundred billion stars according to the latest estimates, spanning some 100,000 light years in disk diameter.
Feltyrion does not have a black hole in its centre, which is instead home to dense star clusters. It is possible that a black hole did once exist there, but was jettisoned during a galactic merger. The long time stability of the galaxy is unknown, since there exists no precise measurements of its mass. However, observations do seem to indicate that there is enough matter to hold things together for the foreseeable future.

Awe poor black hole . Haha interesting read. I figured it was a spiral galaxy... Do you know if it has stellar drift? I assume not, but it would be awesome if it did. Perhaps use some of the ideas from Starways to figure gravity and stellar drift? .

If Feltyrion has no central black hole, won't the galaxy slowly disperse since it has no center of gravity to spiral around? Or do those dense star clusters you mentioned provide a gravity center?

Remember that in the Alexian physics, blackholes does not exists.

Makes me wonder how Feltyrion managed to form in the first place...and if Feltyrion has any neighboring galaxies.

There are four small galaxies around Feltyrion, and if you look they all togheter it remembers a square, Dodo was the first person to travel to one of the another galaxies using some black magic charting techniques and tools, that unfortunally does not work anymore.

It never traveled to another galaxy, he only traveled to the very edge of Feltyrion...you crazy person.
