I watched Last Man On Earth last night and was pleasantly surprised. It was actually good. Quite a bit different, yes, but good for what it is (a vampire movie from the 60's). Reminded me of twilight zone. =]

Be forwarned, Last Man On Earth and I Am Legend are two very different movies, with different goals in mind. From what I can tell, LMOE was trying to stay true to the book, while IAL was trying to entertain. You can't expect a modern movie to stay true to a book written in the 50's/60's. It is modernized to make it appeal to a modrn audience. They did a good job of it, too.

Then I might be disappointed with the movie. Sure, it will probably end up being a good movie, but I'll still be disappointed.

Edit: And plenty of movies today still stay true to their books and still entertain people. Lord of the Rings did it just fine. And to me, this complete change in the vampires is like changing Sauron from a big giant burning eye, to a regular old normal person who went completely insane.

I Am Legend the movie is about monsterous vampires out to kill him. I Am Legend the book is slightly similar, the vampires DO want to kill him, but some of them live just like normal humans once did, aside from sleeping during the day.

So in my opinion, I Am Legend will probably be a good movie, but aside from the vampires, the dog, and the characters name being Robert Neville , they have nothing in common with each other at all.

I thought the guy in LMOE was named Morgan? =S I should pay closer attention I guess.

I think a lot of movies based on books are spectacular, if you don't constantly compare them to the book. And frankly, if they had based it entirely on the book, it would not have been as entertaining. Watching someone drive around in a car from the sixties fighting people with black eye makeup on just isn't quite as captivating to a modern audience.

In the book, he was called Robert Neville Matheson was one of the first people to write a scientific reason for the vampire disease, which is popular now. When I think of I Am Legend, I think of the start of modern day vampires. The new movie seems like a step backwards from what Matheson, and others, started.

I thought more zombie than vampire. Maybe fast 28days later zombies(still zombies but I dont wanna start that argument) anyways, I thought kinda like vampire-zombies... plaugies with a taste for shade and a scent for blood.

Um ah, spoilers ahead.

just got done watching it. I enjoyed it. Good movie, a little short but I don't think there was much to use. Watching a man all alone does get boring at times.

Anywho, good movie. Go see it!

Nice but too short. But a good point of the shortness is that it will keep everything interesting. Althought it would have been fun when they showed more of the loneliness.
I think I will watch TLMOE later this week, and maybe The Quiet Earth once again, which did show the fun part of being alone, and also the sadder side effects.

I have seen it now, and I liked it. It wasn't what I had expected; I thought it was going to be either thriller or horror. What I got instead was a very nice action movie with a few thriller elements. It never scared me, and neither did it need to. Probably the best post-apocalyptic New York I have ever seen; a rather nice, spooky atmosphere in places (though it never reached up the level of 28 Days Later); and some excellent acting by actor Will Smith was the highlights for me. On a scale of 1-6, I would rate this movie somewhere between 4 and 5. Not the best film I have ever seen, but definitely not the worst either, and above the "Hollywood average".
Simply quite enjoyable.

Haha yeah! The whole 'my head is moving' was creepy but at the same time it really gave you the understanding that this man is alone on the planet and is slowly deteriorating mentally. =]
