As I watched this episode of The Universe on the History Channel. I personally thought that it would be a really interesting way to introduce basic information about astronomy- by which I mean with a view toward amateur astronomy- to those who are "uninitiated" (or marginally interested) without getting too much into deeper subjects. I was just wondering if those who have had a chance to see this program or have an opportunity to see it in the future, have the same opinion (or otherwise) and wish to comment.

| | | | I'd agree with you Skinny; but the entire "Universe" series would be a good starter for the amateur astronomer; as for me, I'm barely that, and don't find ANY of the shows to be to far over my head at all.
SO.... big props to the "Universe" series for bringing the stars to us... (hur hur)
Good stuff kids, you should all go check it out.
EDIT: Here's Wikipedia's episode guide:

| | | | Yes, though my question is only about one particular episode, I agree with N5corp the entire series is very well done and informative. There's a selection of sample clips at:

Have a look see if you haven't.

It's interesting. | Google Sky isn't bad, but I personally think that Stellarium is a lot better for planetarium software. I highly recommend it, anyway. Starry Night is what I use most though, but it is commercial, so you would have to pay for it, or download the trial version.

| | | | Ah! that was the name!
I had difficulties remembering Stellarium. I knew of that program by seeing it used on an amateur astronomy magazine, but had forgotten its name. Thanks.

| | | | And Stellarium 0.9.1 was "just released" in January- I like it a lot. | | | | |
