Inspired partly by the Star Empires thread, the idea is to simply populate a galaxy with as many interesting species as we can! There is no limit to what kind of species you create, as long as it is fairly believable in a sci-fi sense. I'll also mark the home system of each species on a galaxy map, using a generated starfield. I'll mark them according to however the creator describes the location.

I'll start it with my weird little spaceborne species, which will also give a good idea of a format to use.

Species Name -- Odegar

Biology -- The Odegar are a spaceborne species with both mammal and insect characteristics whose sentience is often questioned. The Odegar are native to a large asteroid belt on the outer rim of the galaxy, the belt orbits a massive Red Giant star dubbed Odegimar by the other species of the galaxy, it is unknown if the Odegar have a name for it. The species displays signs of a possible hive intelligence, Odegar either aren't aware of other species, or simply have no interest in them. Odegar build large colonies out of asteroid debris held together by their extremely adhesive saliva. The Odegar are considered by many species to be unpleasant to just about every sense, being a ball of oily fur with six gangly arms and an overwhelming stench when exposed to an atmosphere. Odegar individuals who have been cut off from a colony seem to sink into a trance state, possibly saving energy so it may be found by colony-mates. Odegar reproduce rapidly, and will give birth to large amounts of offspring, these offspring are immediately abandoned on an uninhabited asteroid where the newborns will eventually create a new colony. Odegar colonies are also their food source, as Odegar extract nutrients from asteroid interior walls.

Home System -- Odegimar is an extremely massive Red Giant star with a vast asteroid belt, yet no planets. The asteroid belt is well known as a navigating nightmare for space vessels, and many wrecked ships can be found amongst the debris and even incorporated into Odegar colonies. Odegimar lies in the mostly unexplored outer rims of the galaxy.

A gelatinous race! Who needs humanoids?

Species-- Uun'Gak

Biology -- The Uun'Gak are a sentient gelatinous species native to a small planet that resides in a binary system. Uun'Gak are mostly formless masses of foggy gray gel who are quite resistant to blunt force, but being divided into pieces can injure them. Uun'Gak sense their surrounding through echolocation, and emit a hum so they are constantly aware. Uun'Gak reproduction is governed by the orbit of their homeworld, one quarter of the long Uunian year is spent with the planet lying directly between Gakis and Garkis, the two stars of the system. During this time of the year, the planet is in an intense desert season during which the Uun'Gak bury themselves in the ground to be protected from the heat, while underground, the Uun'Gak asexually bud off into small Uunlings which will grow into adult Uun'Gak before the desert season ends. The Uun'Gak are a peaceful species, and are known for being very slow and precise in their actions, sometimes to the point of being viewed as slow-witted.

Homesystem -- The Gakis-Garkis system is a binary system, Gakis is the primary star and is a red giant, Garkis is the companion and is a yellow star. Every planet in the system orbits Gakis, and all of them pass between the two and enter seasons of intense temperature change. The first planet of the system, P'derkena, has many volcanoes that lie dormant until it passes between Gakis and Garkis, at which point they all erupt at nearly the same time. The second planet is the Uun'Gak homeworld, Uuni, a dry world of fairly high gravity and a thin atmosphere. The third and final planet is Ku'Pekta, which is actually a large asteroid that is slowy breaking apart, eventually, it will become a debris ring orbiting Gakis.

Technology -- The Uun'Gak are a spacefaring race, but find space travel unnerving, and are more content with the advancement of probe technology. The Odegar race was first discovered by an Uun'Gak probe, but the Odegar quickly crushed the probe and used it as a part of one of their colonies.

Species -- Tyyoi

Biology -- The Tyyoi are a semi-sentient plant spore species that resides on a jungle world in The Gerian Cluster. The Tyyoi only possess a degree of intelligence when in large cloud-like formations, and they are evolved to a somewhat tribal level. Tyyoi spore group-minds have two phases of life. The spore cloud begins as a plant that has a single large bud, after five Ty'ai years, the bud will violently burst open and unleash the fully grown cloud. Tyyoi clouds move through the air by constantly shifting the cloud's center of gravity along Ty'ai's constant wind currents. Tyyoi clouds are easily disturbed by solid objects, and when divided, the sudden loss of the group-mind will essentially render the cloud too unintelligent to join back together. Tyyoi clouds do not live long, no more than 20 Ty'ai years, but the remains of a dead Tyyoi cloud creates more Tyyoi plant buds.

Homesystem -- Xyn-Urrkas is a mostly unexplored pulsar system inside The Gerian Cluster, and the system is recognized by very few as being home to life. Ty'ai, the Tyyoi homeworld, is the fourth planet of the system and is covered entirely by jungle. The global jungle is constantly growing, and has much gnarled and colorful plantlife. Besides the jungle, the most notable feature of Ty'ai is the massive global jetstream, the jetstream keeps a constant breeze over the planet in the same direction, and the Tyyoi ride the winds.

Outside Gerian Cluster Contact: Very few individuals know of the Tyyoi species, and those few are mostly unaware of the Tyyoi's intelligence level.

Entity -- The Kyrran Empire
cd/jpgs/Lightning4/map (114 Kb)

History -- The Kyrran Empire is a five-thousand year old political entity, originating from the Kyrran homeworld Jylar, in the Kralar system (1). It is now composed of eight different species. Its total history would take far too long to cover, as it has greatly fluctuated and has had many hundreds of emperors. However, the Empire was primarily peaceful and benevolent. The few malevolent rulers there have been were quickly snuffed out by assassins.

The Empire formed in the late Iron age of Kyrran history, and has held a position of power ever since. Its size fluctuated greatly through time, at some periods it was no larger than a couple hundred miles across, and at its greatest it covered 40% of the globe. In the Modern age, the Kyrran Empire managed to take hold of all of Jylar in a swift and decisive war, unifying the Kyrran people under one banner. A great period of peace and technological prosperity followed, and the Kyrran soon began to work on better methods of space flight. They spread throughout their solar system.
It was not long until they had developed FTL travel. In their initial forays into space, to the nearby yellow stars, they had found no other races. These systems were quickly colonized.

The period of no contact came to an end though, as the Kyrran began probing the pulsar system Ultaan (2).
The Kyrran found that a sentient species inhabited this system, living on a terrestrial planet with a methane-based atmosphere. They were only in their Bronze age when they were discovered, and were on the brink of wiping each other out through a devastating global war. The Kyrran stepped in, stopped the war, and uplifted the Ultaanites into the Kyrran Empire.
A golden age soon followed as the Ultaanites proved able to quickly grasp technological concepts and boosted Kyrran research.
The Empire quickly spread and encountered another race in the white dwarf system Ivo (3), the Elo, an energy-being species. The Elo were somewhat technologically advanced compared to the Kyrran at this time, but the Kyrran were still far more powerful and conquered what defense forces they found. The Elo surrendered and were annexed into the Empire.

The Empire would not go unchallenged for long. As they approached the Mylannus Systems (4), they encountered another race, the Nalla, who proved to be a military match for the Kyrran empire. The Empire and the Nalla soon engaged in a hundred year war. The Nalla actually gained some sympathizers in the Empire. This caused the Empire to become unstable, and they were starting to lose strength in the war and were faltering.

Especially troubling was the fact the Nalla were spreading, and has annexed a race into their own Empire. The Hygar were found by the Nalla in the Olk System (5), and uplifted from the Industrial era into the Empire ranks. They proved to have great tactical prowess and after being familiarized with advanced technology, proved to have great affinity for spaceship tactics.

It was looking rather grim for the Kyrran Empire. The fearsome Nalla Empire was starting to push them back, and were rapidly approaching the home stars of the Kyrran.
It is here the Kyrran made their comeback. With desperate attacks and tactics, they had managed to defeat one of the major Nalla fleets, and kept a foothold just outside of their home systems.
With the aid of Ultaan and Elo scientists, they advanced in the field of energy weaponry and outfitted attack ships with them. These weapons proved to be the turning point of the war, as the Nalla had no defense for these new weapons. The momentum of the Nalla Empire soon faltered as they were pushed back to their home system. The empire soon crumbled and descended into civil war, which was promptly ceased by the Kyrran.

The Kyrran Empire achieved peace once again. After some final expansion to their present borders, they had discovered three other races. The Ty-Va and the Ut-Va of the Vyim system (6), who had just achieved FTL travel, soon encountered a Kyrran expedition and accepted a peaceful entrance into the empire. The most recent race to be discovered and incorperated into the Empire were the Jald of the red giant system Oltal (7). The Jald were the subject of the most controversy, as they were rather forcefully incorperated into the Empire. This controversy eventually passed as it drifted away into the past.

Races -- There are eight races that are in the Kyrran Empire
1. Kyrran -- The original race of the Kyrran empire. They are a tall, thin, humanoid bipedal species, with a slightly blue skintone. Some are slightly arrogant due to their unbreakable, five-thousand year old empire. Home system - Kralar (1)

2. Ultaan -- The second race to be annexed into the Kyrran Empire. They are a methane-breathing arachnid species, eight legged with the two front legs capable of being used as hands. Their appearance is rather indimidating, but the Ultaan are actually rather friendly. The Ultaan have a gift for technology and researching, and hold great scientific positions in the Empire. Home System - Ultaan (2)

3. Elo -- The third race to join the empire. They are an energy being species. They originally held the form of a spherical ball of energy, but through many years of contact with the Kyrran, many individuals now choose to take the form of a bipedal humanoid. Their unique physiology is still hard to understand. They feed off of solar radiation to keep their energetic bodies going. No doubt because of their energy makeup, they are always constantly on the move and dislike being idle. Every Elo is adept at manipulating energy forces, this gift has been beneficial to the Kyrran Empire's advances in the field of energy uses, especially with weaponry. Home System - Ivo (3)

4. Nalla -- The fourth race of the Kyrran Empire. They are a red bipedal reptilian species that breathes a carbon dioxide atmosphere. They once were in control of the Nalla Empire, which was in great opposition to the Kyrran Empire. The war had almost defeated the Kyrran, but the Kyrran came back and finally defeated the Nalla, annexing them into the empire. Home System - Mylannus Alpha (4)

5. Hygar -- The fifth race of the Kyrran Empire. Originally part of the Nalla Empire. The Hygar are a relatively unremarkable bipedal humanoid species. They are, however, quite hairy. Their entire bodies are covered with a moderate coat of fur. Coloration varies, but is typically black with streaks of brown. The Hygar are an industrious species, adept in the field of manipulating metals and creating starships. They are also quite tactically gifted. Home System - Olk (5)

6. Ty-Va and Ut-Va -- These two are seperate but similar races that evolved from the same planet. Physically, they are thin humanoids with orange tinted skin, and slightly angular structure. The Ty-Va are predominantly orange but more rounded, while the Ut-Va are less orange but far more angular. The Ty-Va are also far tallar than the Ut-Va. The two races are very mysterious and spiritual. Home System - Vyim (6)

7. Jald -- The slightly more controversial race, as they were forcefully incorperated into the empire upon being discovered. They were in their modern age when the Kyrran came and took over, and uplifted them. They are an ocean-dwelling species, best described as red, tripedal crustaceans. They also have two claw-hands that are identical in size. Home System - Oltal (7)

I've made a version of the map that I've stripped out most of the JPEG artifacts from (they were quite hideous on some people's monitors) and saved as a PNG. Feel free to not use it if there are any major flaws in it that I overlooked, but if you do end up using it please keep it as a PNG so those of us who can see the JPEG artifacts will stop whining^W^Wbe able to enjoy this.

The Quartet

The Quartet is a small star cluster named for the four red giants that mark its borders. Three sentient species reside in the Quartet, the Phardeg, Juulk, and the Q'opa. These three species are fully aware of each other, and have mutual peace agreements. The Quartet was not always peaceful, as the Q'opa once attempted to conquer the Juulk and the Phardeg, but a combined Juulk-Phardeg defense halted them. The Juulk and Phardeg now keep a watchful eye on the Q'opa.

Species of the Quartet:

Phardeg -- The Phardeg are a hexapodal insectoid species notable for their towering height, with each Phardeg standing over 20 feet tall. The Phardeg homeworld, Phegma, is home to immense trees, and the Phardeg's height allows them to eat the fruit from the branches. The Phardeg are genderless, and every member of the species lays a clutch of eggs every seven Phegmian years. The Phardeg gestate the eggs in mandible pouches, and then lay them from their mouth. Phegma is located in the Dega star system.

Juulk -- The Juulk are a serpentine species that dwells in the lava seas of a small planet. The Juulk have extremely tough black scales that protect their inner flesh, and are also known for the single massive eye upon their heads. Juulk reproduction is known for being quite slow, with Juulk only giving birth to a single offspring at a time. The Juulk homeworld, Jukladia, is the only planet to be orbiting one of the Quartet's border stars, the Juulk system is known as Klaa.

Q'opa -- The Q'opa are a cephalopod species native to a world that is over 80% water on the surface. The Q'opa have 360 degree vision, with individuals having between 30 to 60 eyes each. The species may appear to be very aggressive, but are actually quite terrified of the other species around them and believe that they should have the upper hand should another race try to attack or outwit them somehow. These beliefs eventually lead the Q'opa to attacking the Phardeg and the Juulk, the reason for the war essentially boiling down to "getting them before they get us." The Q'opa homeworld, Padarr, lies in the Opada system.

The Hal'krid alliance

The Hal'krid alliance is an alliance made by three races who are united in all aspects but are in constant political debate about many things such as whether to expand, whether to change taxes, whether to do this research or that research. because the alliance is a unanimous vote and every part of must do the exact same thing to make the balance fair it is very difficult to decide... especially when there are 3 different governments debating.

The Three of Hal'Krid

Drud'kark - The Drud'Kark are yellow skinned 8 foot tall humanoids with 3 fingers and 7 toes. the Drud'kark live for about 600 years each and can have 20 children at one time. the spawning process takes 50 years for the eggs to mature before they will then be fertilized by a male who the eggs are then passed onto him. the male then incubates the eggs in his lower abdomen and the babys take 5 years to fully mature where the male then births each baby over a four month period.
the Drud'kark live on Farcesta 7 in the Farcesta system

Sebonaise - white pasty skinned 2 foot tall insectoids living on the planet herbobos in the groin system. they live for 7 years bit breed up to 1000 baby's in they're life time. eggs are fertilized a-sexually and they are all released at the same time and buried in a flowerpot after 7 days tiny flying creatures crawl out of the flowerpot and are put in an aviary for 7 months until they mature into and adult. the sabonaise pass they're knowledge on genetically so the children can then further they're parents scientific research more easly.

Umbrey - The umbrey are pink spotted octopus type creature. they live for 50 years before dying and they're children are generated from the dying cells. 5 children can be created from one adult. the Umbrey are the most advanced race in teh alliance and the most diplomatic. they live in the Hore'sey system on Umgria.

Species -- Yalu

Biology -- The Yalu are a
semi-gaseous species native to a rogue planet that resides in an odd starless void just outside of The Gerian Cluster. While the Yalu are gaseous, their bodies must abide to a roughly humanoid shape. At first glance, a Yalu looks like the silhouette of a tall and lanky human, but giving off a constant stream of mist. Their homeworld has no atmosphere and is devoid of any appreciable amount of light, save for that of distant stars. The Yalu consider themselves to be "one" with their homeworld, and an individual can sense if something out of the ordinary is happening on the other side of the planet. The Yalu are genderless, and reproduce by combining their ambient mists together into an offspring.

Homeworld -- DunYal is a rogue world, and possibly orbited a local star at one point. The planet is heavily cratered and lacks an atmosphere, and the Yalu did not evolve on DunYal until long after it became a rogue planet. The Yalu themselves believe that DunYal probably orbited one of the numerous red giants in the local area of space.

Technology -- The Yalu are not a spacefaring race, but have advanced structures that appear bleak and featureless, despite having advanced technology hidden under their panels. Yalu architecture is dark, metallic, and has many asymmetrical angular areas.

Species -- Dialgix

Rarity= *ONLY ONE*

Biology --- Dialgix is a main body majorly similar to dialga's but it is not in a quadrupedal-form instead he is a biped and is clad in steel armor and has an enlarged diamond shaped head his claws are are also noticeably sharp and has dinosaur like spines down his back he has also a clamshell like wing structure and also has a chestplate with a large diamond at the center

Dialga ---------->pic

Homeworld ------> Dimension 839

While not actually a planet it is one of the many dimension that bind the universe together, however it is only the size of a small planet but only Dialgix and Dialga live here giving them plenty of space

Mytholgy (not much) while the Doctor (form DR.WHO) has visted the dimension he has found some diamond shards and when put together form a huge egg-like diamond this maybe a clue as to whether Dialgix is actually a Son to Dialga, they are also to be considered to be why time flows.

Short history:
It's race of humanoid lizards, which evolve from primitive ones in almost 400.000 years. When they discovered fire and power of this power, Quazeti began to stay in one place. Soon, less than 1000 years after first village, first two basic civilisations fought very hard and violent. In fact, none of them took advantage, but one of them took upper hand due to first alphabet. Soon peace was signed and both civilisations were trading for long time, peace however lasted for just 100 years.

Second great war, while both civilisations headed for higher technology, based on the local mineral called Ularis and it's mixes, began by very stupid reason, one of the daughters of civilisation called Loxahi refused to marry son of the prince of Yterus. Both sides were in fact around our industial age, but only one survived anihilation of brother-blood war.

Loxahi, after global victory, spent a lot of decades to research about kind of computers, based on their numerics and mathematic. Soon, as computers were created - remember their technology is based on quartz-like Ularis - they started to look into stars and think about space travel.

First spaceships were very primitive and slow, so Quazeti during 200 years discovered all 16 planets and more than 100 moons. In fact, they used just part of them, because they were unable to breathe another atmosphere, than similar to their own. After next 100 years Quazeti sent spaceship out of the their solar system. While 50 years of journey of the subspace, many things changed in their home system Farrath. Still, they found the way to travel fast between new system, called Ixit and their own.

Farrath II is the home planet of Quazeti, their biology is similar to our lizards. One exception is they're humanoid and without huge ammount of oxygen in their body.
Atmosphere is mainly pure carbondionixe and helium, hydrogen is just on the poles.
Surface is rocky, mainly desert and jungle, which were perfect for getting food for civilisation, that's not curious, because actual cities are set around jungle parts, rarely on the desert places. There is no ice or arctic poles, however temperature is still around +30 global. Water is just 20% of whole globe, but continent is common in rivers and lakes with salt and sweet water.

Ixit Vc is similar world, but smaller and is part of gas giant, Ixit V. Atmosphere is same, as Farrath II's, but surface is mainly oceanic. Stable ground is just 5% and global temperature is around +14, colder, than on Farrath II. As was said before, Ixit Vc is full of the titanium, very good mineral for spaceships. Both Ixit and Farrath are connected with natural phenomena, like wormholes.

Quazeti are lizards. Their scales are typical yellow, red or orange, due to desert regions. In jungle regions their scales are gray, green or blue, due to camouflage. They are bi-pedal, two eyed and thick-scaled, inteligent monsters, with religious and warrior characters. Of course, they're also kind of scientist, which actually are looking for faster way between star systems than now.
Typical age is 200 years of planet years, which is around 147 of human lifetime. They can save water for a long journeys about their 2 local months.
Minor species, not technologic like them, but very inteligent and smart are dog-like Ixitan, native race of Ixit Vc. These dogs are kinda slaves or more like servants, very loyal to their 'gods' or 'masters', however they call Quazeti.
