Hey guys, I know this has probably been brought up before. But why don't we setup something for Alex to give him donations to help motivate the progress on Noctis V Project. I believe it would be good to show him how many fans he has of the game, I would gladly donate to his project. I think the his whole concept of noctis is simply fantastic. I would gladly donate to a Noctis V project development.

The last dozens of times this was mentioned, Alex responded that he didn't want to be paid for Noctis V. He already knows he has many fans waiting for it, and he feels guilty for not having it released already. Getting paid might only make things worse for him.

Don't get me wrong, I would gladly donate as well if he wanted that. But so far, he's been negative to the idea.

Why would he need donations to work on NV? It's not like the development of it costs him any money.

It may not cost him directly, but spending time on NV means he's not spending time on his other paid projects. I think he said he does independent software consulting/programming, which I would imagine takes a lot of time.

Yes, but if you give him donations, he'll feel more obligated to deliver the product, costing him sanity.

Thatís just it: Noctis V isn't supposed to be some obligation. It is supposed to be a hobby side project he can work on in his spare time, whenever he feels like it. A labour of love, as it is, not of cash.

I think we should respect his wishes and refrain from donating.

I was just a bit amazed by Dumbum's question.

But Alex works on NV, as a hobby, in his spare/free time, meaning he doesn't sacrifice paid time to work on it.
People never sacrifice paid time to a hobby... :-/

I brought this up a long time ago, others have also. When I brought it up I wasn't just directing the money to be used for NV but for the website and his internet connection in general.

If he set up a PayPal donations account I'm sure he would receive quite a few donations, I know I would give him money every time I had some free cash to spend as I wish. Maybe $5-$10 a month, not a lot but if it helps him pay for his internet connection or the website then thats awesome to me.

Yeah so true, I too probably donate 5$ to 10$ easily. Guess really I shouldn't of directed donations towards Noctis V. I just don't like waiting all this time feeling like they're is no progress... Oh Well guess we'll always have Spore to look forward too soon.

If you can't wait, then why not contribute to the Noctis community sequel? : P

But I doubt that an internet connection is really required to develop a game like NV, since all the needed software to work on it is already on Alex' computer, or is developed by Alex himself...
Ofcourse, he needs an internet connection to give us news about progress, but that's his own decission.

I'm not say that i'm really against donating, or anything, just explaining why I think that NV development doesn't cost any significant money. Explaining that donating wouldn't help Alex with developing money, aside maybe just putting more pressure on Alex, because we would be giving him money to work on NV, while it wouldn't help him to deliver NV more soon, making him feel guilty of recieving the donation...

Being a professional programmer it is, in theory, possible to directly hire him to program the game. Programmers tend not to be the cheapest of workers though - but ey, if anyone got, say, 4000-5000Ä (or 6200- 7750 US$), and the persuasive gifts needed to pursue him into making his spare/hobby time a professional for a while, then well..
We could have NV in just about a month..
Nothing points to that, and I wouldnt make my sparetime and hobbies paid work either. You just gotta have some time where you do what you like to do without thinking like a professional.
