I think the focus of Noctis is more on exploration than on maintaining your ship, so complex repair processes would probably just detract from the experience. Seeing as stardrifters appear to have few moving parts, I imagine they rarely require any form of maintenance, aside from refuelling and occasionally resetting the computer. The stardrifter has a vimana shield to protect it from physical damage, so there's only the effects of radiation disrupting the electronics. I'm sure stardrifters were designed to be mostly self-reliant, to avoid stranding someone in a distant corner of the galaxy.

Speaking of self-sufficiency, I always found it odd that the stardrifter wasn't designed to set aside a few grams of fuel to avoid running empty. It seems pretty absurd that you're allowed to perform a jump that depletes your entire lithium store, when setting aside just 1% of your fuel would be enough to get you to the nearest S06 star. The stardrifter does appear to retain enough fuel to keep its critical systems online, but flight controls are disabled at that point. It might be better if it only allowed you to target S06 stars after that point, and maybe even target one for you automatically. This might remove or decrease the likelihood of emergency refuelling encounters with NPC drifters, but encounters with drifters might occur under other circumstances.
oatmeal, are you crazy?

Adding in an emergency fuel tank would be nice, that is only used when the main tank hits empty.

Or perhaps another way of doing it is setting a reserve level... once it hits the reserve level it cancels flight. The reserved fuel then may be used as emergency fuel.

But that takes all the fun out of designing spacecraft! I mean, the basic idea behind design of all things is to make things fall apart at the drop of a hat. How else can you get repeat customers?
