| | | | I’ve been planning to make this post, since I read this comment:
| Deanfrz (in Noctis: Longest Vimanajump?, Aug. 20, 2008) said: | | But so you can jump all the way to NAN+LY? how long does it take? | Have care when you speak of +NAN L.Y.
As Parsis said: “There are some things Felisians are not meant to know. . .”
+NAN L.Y. is a place where only a complete fool would go.
(OK, forget I mentioned that last part.)
It seems that +NAN L.Y. has a place in the Noctis “tradition”, but what it IS has the status of an “urban myth”.
And so, for everyone to understand, and just for the +NAN L.Y. of it, I present you with this:
cd/zips/Skinnymon/nanly (49 Kb)
“I warned you, but did you listen to me? Oh, no, you knew it all, didn't you? Oh, it's just a harmless little bunny, isn't it? Well, it's always the same. I always tell them—“ -Tim The Enchanter
Hey, I got music dedicated to me in Mruqe’s Noctis - The Galactic Odyssey [“+NAN L.Y. (a tribute to Skinnymon)”] for this “fun”. cd/zips/Lkraider/the galactic odyssey (232 Kb)

EDIT: Added two new pctures to the NanLYPix.zip enclosed. Udated Oct. 19, 2008

| | | | Legend goes that a good many Felisian has lost their mind, staring into the dark voids of +NAN L.Y. For there is something moving out there, in that cold darkness at the edge of time. Something dark, unseen, and unknown. But it is coming; it is coming for you.
"Abandon hope all ye who enter here" --- Dante.
Meanwhile, if you buy into my theory that the Felisian universe has long since died, being a lot older than ours, and that their galaxy is therefore the one and only left, +NAN L.Y. would be the dark void beyond the galactic rim. The dead space which has been stretched into oblivion by the force of Dark Energy. Now ruled only by chaotic nothingness.
Of course, in actual fact, +NAN L.Y. is just a bug in the programing. Or so Alex says... ; )

(so that would mean that the Twilight galaxy would be just a few thousand light years away from Felyitron, my newn name for the Noctis galaxy. Like it?)

(like it, Gazer?) . . NOCTIS IV: Space Necromancy Dammit Gazer! You know there are NO "bugs" in Noctis IV or NICE, just FEATURES! (Rule #42)

| | | | ![]() | Trad.a said: | | How does one travel to +NAN LY? | Parsis coordinates: (-25,712 ; -15,026 ; -433,075)
Distance from Balastrackonastreya: 18.4 light years Distance from the start position in Noctis: 291.2 light years Distance from the center of the galaxy: 4,542.9 light years
+nan L.y. is a class 0 star.
No planet of this star has been entered in the database.
Why do you ask???

if my Catsheimer’s addled brain recalls correctly, try targeting a planet when the star is planetless and when the computer screen starts fluttering engage the drive.

| | | | + NAN DYAMS!
I discovered this totally by accident! I'm still at the S09, and while selecting a local target, I accidentally keyed in a number too high and pressed enter. This resulted in me being directed to the 1st moon of the 1st planet-which DID NOT HAVE ANY MOONS!-. The moon was listed as internally hot, and of planet P-1 (yes, with the dash). Anyway, when the approach ended, with 0 dyams left to the moon, it still read 'refining'. I named the 'imaginary moon' 'By Parsis!'.( Yet typing in ST BY PARSIS! on the GOES console gave no response.) I tried again, by selecting 'set local target' and entering '123'. This time I received an actual error message(see zip file). I reloaded noctis and this time, I think, typed something like '99999999999'. Aaaand...the display started flickering and eventually read: LOCAL TARGET: PLANET ZEROTH Aaand the whole view started shaking violently.
Considered making a separate topic but this seemed like a good place to post it in.
The images should be in a zip file in the c-disk. http://anywherebb.com/postline/cdisk.php?dnl=cd/zips/opQ33Ix5xmNgumJeu8Dgm1.zip

 | | | | I decided to check out +NAN L.Y. You may have noticed, but the temperature there is ++NAN. Interesting. I was also out of fuel (using your NAN save file), so I called for help. I couldn't wait long, but I thought help usually came faster than five minutes. I wanted to get a shot of two stardrifters in +NAN L.Y. and then watch, in despair, as the other stardrifter casually flew away to normal space.
It didn't happen. Maybe I was just impatient.

Secondly, if you saw the new pictures I just added to the zip package, I know that help isn’t coming. But sitting there in the dark and whatever temperature gives you plenty of time to reflect on “WHAT THE FRELL DID I JUST DO???”

| Skinnymon (albeit in small print above—so I’m an idiot.) said: | | if my Catsheimer’s addled brain recalls correctly, try targeting a planet when the star is planetless and when the computer screen starts fluttering engage the drive. | Yesh, same thing different day. Aren’t you lucky? I ‘m going by your prior comment that you are using Noctis IV for your travels. Point of reference for you: In NIV, no Planet One or Planet Two has a moon. Know it, think it, believe it. It looks like you actually targeted a moon of a planet distantly, but you needed to “r99” (clear status) and start targeting your star again and Vimana travel back to it- even if it’s a short distance. Then you can go back to normal exploring. As for the error message, when I had a +NAN L.Y. experience, I was using a 386 with DOS (out of Windows 95). I have no idea what it’s telling you.

You know, I think I have a game on disk called Zeroth Zone, nice old shmup IIRC

| | | | Wow, I just went to +NAN LY for real! The stuff you posted above suddenly became very clear! As soon as I started the fine approach to the already +NAN DYAM distance to a (planetless)S07's first planet's first moon...everything outside and inside the stardrifter went dark!

Then it happened. The lithium supply started dwindling extremely quickly(' your fuel gets sucked dry by a Lithium Eater') and ran out withn a second! And I got the whole package: +nan parsis co-ords, +nan ly, +nan temperature! ('But sitting there in the dark and whatever temperature gives you plenty of time to reflect on “WHAT THE FRELL DID I JUST DO???”')
...I'm going to try it out in NICE.
UPDATE! UPDATE!
It DOESN"T work in NICE. So IV has features that NICE doesn't have!
|
| | | | But since you actually DID go +NAN L.Y., did you get the feeling when it happened that you had "reached the other side" --not like in ceasing to live, but rather that you were no longer a part of the universe you had just been in? | | | | |
