I've found a planet with a partially transparent surface(it only applies to about half the planet)! True, these objects may be uncommon but not unusual, BUT...wait for it...

THE PLANET IS FELISIAN! So we've got whole forests resting on transparent (albeit pinkish)ground!

I don't like transparent terrains.
Particularly on felisian planets.

I don't even think I like other transparent stuff (ie: vegetation), though it is obviously less disturbing on the viewfield so I'm more prone to accept it without moaning that much.

But for transparent terrain: it means I'm most probably leaving the planet.

The bright gold environments there look neat. : )

Transparent terrains can be interesting, but I have to agree with Neuzd in that they tend to not feel very 'realistic'. One would think that if they were looking through a solid transparent crystalline terrain, it would refract the light travelling through it, and you would expect impurities and cracks to make it significantly less transparent.

Transparent vegetation is much easier to accept, and is something that doesn't really feel out of place. The plants might only only absorb a particular wavelength of light while letting the rest pass through, or might not photosynthesize at all, instead camouflaging themselves to catch stray hoppers that wander into their path.

Anyway, the real question should be, what are the transparent terrains in Noctis? Perhaps they are actually giant communal organisms, covering a planet's true surface like living glaciers. They might be filled with pure fluid or even gas, and just have a thin transparent casing, like a jellyfish, only on a monumental scale.

That's a Hopper for you. Takes life as it comes. Thing like transparent planets or selves don't phase them a bit.

That, and it shows that the trees don't have roots. Space-farers probably wouldn't have the right scientific background to explain that one.

He's not transparent, only cloaked! : D

Tree-like organisms on another planet aren't necessarily like those on Earth. If they were held in place by deep roots, how would they walk? : )

Beware the trees! They move when you look away! And if a tree falls when no one is around, they make a noise like "Booga booga!" and then explode.

After I read this post, I'd a bit of a scare when I landed on the next planet: This hopper greeted me:

Probably not transparent, but still quite a weird hopper. (how do hoppers eat if they have no apparent internal organs anyway? do they filter-feed?)
