| | | | I'm basically going to post my screenshots and discoveries here. (with 1500+ shots in my noctis galleries, I should be able to keep this topic up for a while)
Anyway, for the first post, let's have these pictures:
It's a coastal cliff! Somehow cliffs aren't very common in noctis.
A nearby cove:

And now for a more recent snaps:
I landed on a felisian recently. A seemingly rather typical felisian, i.e. the third planet of an S00. Here're my CAST notes about it:
MY FIRST FEW EQUATORIAL LANDINGS PROVED DISAPPOINTING AS I LANDED IN BLAND GREY HILLY TERRAIN. TRIED LANDING A BIT FURTHER NORTH AT 0,39 AND WAS FINAALY GREETED BY A PRETTY PURPLE-GREEN FOREST. BEEN MAKING MORE LANDINGS...THIS PLANET MAKES MIRACLE'S PIECE OF ICE SEEM TO BE TEEMING WITH LIFE(IN COMPARISON) WITH ITS LARGELY BARREN LANDS. THERE IS A PECULIAR SPOT THOUGH. AT 134,30 HEAD FOR THE SOUTHEAST AND YOU MAY FIND SOME WEIRD SPIRES. 92,1 HARBOURS FROZEN LAKELANDS WITH JUST TWO BIRDS SPOTTED. ONE MORE LANDING AND I'M OFF TO THE NEXT FELISIAN. LANDED IN MORE BARREN AREAS! AH, WELL, AT LEAST I PROBABLY DISCOVERED THE MOST BARREN S00 FELISIAN. RYAN GJK E6011.784.123
So, here are the shots of the 'spires'.(note that panorama shots are not working for me in Noctis IV)

| | | | "I"'m working on that! Just....be patient. OK, after reading your thread yesterday, I sent a PM to one of the NIV aficionados and hopefully he will post directly here the answer. | | | | |

| | | | Hmm... I tried out the patch. Now I understand that people have the patch when they say virmina flight is faster on the roof. Too fast, I think. I'll stick with the original version. (Although I suppose I should try NICE one of these days...) | | | | |
|
| | | | Well, I must say the patch works for me. I used to take quite a few panorama shots in NIV but the damn key wasn't workng for me either, now.
[Faster? My old garbage scow SD would probably fall apart!]
With those spires, a panorama possibly might kind of be off kilter at the edges. (that is, points not lining up right with the shafts.) I had that problem with lots of tall images at times. That's why I always took single shots of the best part of the image as well as a panorama.

EDIT: Feature Alert! I noticed the * key still worked for single frame shots (force of habit) , so I tried /. It works now also. Feature! Do Not Fix!

| | | | I tried out the patch and I'd say that the roof speedup does have some disadvantages. It's definitely too fast-and may dampen the spirit of exploration and lead users to miss some great images. Still, I'd probably use Noctis+ if I really need to take some panoramic shots.
Anyway, here comes another batch of snaps!

Toying around with the Vimana Drive...to achieve the effect of an impactor heading towards the SD.

Nice colours on a thin-atmosphere world.

The landing cupola perched on the edge of a canyon.

A view you certainly don't get very often!

The sun shining upon a blue sky above green leaves...these colours are always comforting and cosy.
|
| | | | Huh. That world in the last shot looks almost earth-like. Far closer than anything I've seen yet. | | | | |

| | | | Yep. Recently I landed on a quartz world (non-dark spot)and saw a mountain in the distance. I aimed my lander towards it after the first bounce, thinking that it would arrive at the base. Instead,

By the way, I named the world 'Skeenimonne'. Yes, I was out of ideas, and yes, I intend to name several more worlds after major community members if I can't think of any other names.
UPDATES!
Noctis Plus: Was running Noctis IV under the Noctis Plus module. Seems like you can't manually move the star on planet surfaces.
Small discoveries: I recently found an S02 with 2 orbiting substellar objects!
Aren't substellar objects supposed to be more massive than S02s?(by the way, while heading to a point about 35 dyams away from the star, the star disappeared BEFORE the substellar objects. The S02 also had 5 other planets, with 2 gas giants amog them).
Current situation: Travelling between 2 S05 planets. The distance between them was under 1 dyam, so yep, the approach is so slow I'm actually scooping (and thus GAINING) lithium during fine approach.

| | | | NICE Discovery! I'm at the galactic rim in Noctis IV, and it's a pretty well known fact(to me, at least) that NICE rim stars all turn 'invisible' about 50 LY from the galactic boundary(i.e. you can't see or target them but they still appear when copying IV-NICE current files).
So, I arrived at this S08 in Noctis IV:
and on a whim decided to visit it in NICE, and...

Weel, what can I say? Visually it's an S01, according to the HUD it's an S00, and according to the SD it's an S08.
So I opened NICE's system analyzer...
Obviously something was wrong. I targeted one of the planets and...

Welcome to the NICE equivalent of +NAN LY. Since I used DWNoctis(i.e. it was in windowed mode) it didn't really give me the 'WHAT DID I JUST DO' sensation. But it did come with some of its own sights:
The auto-polarised stardrifter.

Time for some closer analysis...
PARSIS CO-ORDS:-0,0,-0 TEMPERATURE: -<weird dots> degrees C
(final picture taken after the activation of the dirty NICE cheat useful feat of NICE engineering known as the Omega Drive feature. After halting the fine approach, the dstance back to the star was ALWAYS 2.50 LY).

With much frelling useless long-term research, I found just about every kind of world around S02's EXCEPT Felisian. I checked my records and found this S02 with only TWO planets.
http://noctisiv.free.fr/index.php?action=5&body=Ooze
Of course, I must admit that load of worlds and distances (?) just may be a record for an S02.
As for more massive, that may require research. When you use the r77 (Remote Target Data) on the star, what Bal. M. (mass) is it?
EDIT: About the quartz pictures. Nice job, 4.6M! I'd say you used speed level 9 and tilted the capsule up a bit.
As for the other pictures, are you trying to get a reputation like mine?
and as far as the S00 star Skinnymon: I don't know who named it. It wasn't me.

| | | | ![]() | Skinnymon said: | | and as far as the S00 star Skinnymon: I don't know who named it. It wasn't me. | Ha! I've been more subtle. Cammontral is a star world I named after you. I's not even a pseudo anagram, it's more messing around with some letters of the word "Contrammiraglio" which meaning I don't think I need to explain.
Cammontral orbits a substellar object in the S08 system Camaidasco. It's a gas giant (the only one in the system) and being the 9th and last moon I thought that the meaning of the name was perfectly fitting. (Yes, every last world would have been right for a name like that, but Skinnymon knows why this system is so special...if he read my PM at least...).
By the way. Skinnymon saying that you're trying to steal his reputation is going to make me scared of the entire Feltyrion galaxy! Can't you guys play Noctis the way it's intended to be played? : P (serioulsy joking)

Okay, I've arrived. P01 'Huge Yet Tiny?' 0.42 DYAMS from star, substellar
P02 'Weighted Purple' 0.79 dyams, large, not consistent
P03 'Tiny Yet Huge?' 1.97 dyams, substellar
P04 'Horizon's Penumbra' 3.90 dyams, small, thin-atmosphere
P05 'Sierra Nadir' 7.07 dyams, small, thin-atmosphere
P06 'Blue Eraser' 14.05 dyams, large, not consistent
P07 'Worn Pinnacles' 28.89 dyams, S.S.D.C. .
(distances taken from arrival point at star)
REMOTE TARGET DATA: ANCESTRY XXXI S02 3.47931623 Bal M 194811C Surface Temp Major Bodies: 6 est.
UPDATE!: Discovered an S02 with EIGHT objects, in which the last is over 45 dyams from the parent star!
| Skinnymon said: | | EDIT: About the quartz pictures. Nice job, 4.6M! I'd say you used speed level 9 and tilted the capsule up a bit. | hmmm...that was probably the case. I'm fond of speed level 9. One can really learn quite a bit from your Photobucket Galleries!

| I can't imagine what you mean...no, I have no connection with this. I'm also aware that there's this 'orphan' planet known as Skinnymon's Orb.
Meanwhile, I saw this in an S10 system and almost thought it was some dirt on the SD:

| | | | A critter gallery!
A typical example of an overly enthusiastic hopper...hiding in the night to pounce on any unsuspecting visitor.
A classic hopper ambush.
A hopper apparently sunbathing, saluting, or maybe something more sinister?
This hopper takes things a step further.
Rather cat-like, right?
Meanwhile, several landscapes and stuff here:
The landing cupola seen through a canyon.
A rather rosy scene, maybe.
What can I say?
A scenic panorama shot.
...
The landing cupola firing off flares. (just went backwards in the rain to create the effect)
A canyon....
but the Best Gorge Award still goes to...
Really, this is the steepest, most dramatic gorge I've seen so far. (may not be the most appealing in terms of overall topography or vegetation cover, though)
If you're pointing at the name of that planet and saying 'Tear of the Emerald? That's a rip-off from Tear of the Dragon!', note that its parent star is less than 4 LY from Lifeeeee, and I'm hoping to label some of its planets in a 'Tear of the _______' format.
