Alt-tabbing can slow the process. Either way, there's a lot of things to be updated, it'll take some time. My suggestion, start it up and go do something else for an hour :3=

I went and had dinner. I came back to discover the screensaver had interrupted it. Grr...

It doesn't take so long, it's just 310 KB.
Anyway ALT-TABbing shouldn't be harmful at all, maybe just slowing the process as RJ is saying.

Or you can use this:
<link cd/zips/Shadowlord/inbox32.zip>

It's NOT a replace module for inbox but an alternative tool. Don't call it from the GOES network, but run it alone (put it in the Noctis home directory).

It takes only seconds to update the StarMap and GUIDE and also writes a logfile with rejected entries (those objects which already had a name).

It doesn't output how many labels and notes get imported, though.

Ok, it finished, but it said: Imported labels: None, Imported comments: None.

That's not right, is it? Also, the zip is unreadable in winzip.

Well, depending on how things go, alt-tabbing could pause Noctis IV. It happens for some and not for others. And while the file size isn't large, it can still take some time to update the game seeing as it's been years since the last update. And if you are using a clean StarMap, that's over 5000 comments and labels being added :3=

In the past, from time to time it was possible for updates to take upwards of a half an hour or more. As for inboxes/outboxes, they aren't zip files, even though windows says they are. Noctis is the only thing that can open an inbox, so unzipping it won't work.

I still have to write that post with base instructions, in the Noctis Home, by the way if you have JUST downloaded the full package of NoctisIV, that is already updated and you don't have to run the inbox module.

Otherwise:
Make sure the inbox is the latest one (linking it here again)
cd/zips/Neuzd/inbox_2008_12 (310 Kb)
put it in the data folder of a Noctis IV instalaltion and rename it to inbox.zip.

As a test, try typiyng:
CAT COTIRI
in the GOES console.
If GOES outputs the GUIDE notes, then your copy is already updated.
(That's a star of mine named by me -ehm, sorry- included in this latest inbox).

The inbox.zip isn't a ZIP file at all, do not try to unpack it.
Just put it the way it is in the data folder.

PS
You're not trying it with NICE, are you?

Oh yeah, that could be it too :3= At least he isn't trying it with older versions of Noctis, like Noctis III or something. That happened once.

Ah, I had just re-downloaded it because I thought it was glitching (but it was just the shortcut pointing in the wrong place ) So that's already been updated. Ok. Panic over.

*Skies of felysian and unstable (volcanic) worlds are bugged
*Volcanic worlds look wrong when viewed from space (this might also be the case for other planet types)
*Planet surfaces randomly change (volcanic worlds do that, and perhaps some others too)
*Random crashes happen, some without known causes, some with known causes (unstable planet + transparant surface = crash upon landing, for example)
When did those start happening?
Also, I forgot that WNICE has way more stars in the galaxy than DOSNICE..

Also, made some changes to Inbox32 so that it reports data and produces .log files.. It seems to import more labels than generic Inbox does... More investigation required (see also yesterday's Frespych logs)

A new NIV inbox! ^_^ It's been a while, but definitely worth the wait. Two thumbs up to Neuzd for rekindling my interest in Noctis after way too long an absence. Major kudos!

Although... To add a little bit of pain to my pleasure, a few weeks ago, during an much-overdue hard drive purge, I deleted my old NIV installation along with a couple of years worth of GUIDE notes. "Won't be needing those again," I thought. In fact, I was probably doing this at the roughly the same time Neuzd was making his breakthrough. You just gotta love the irony... : P

Yeah, someone came by and installed Noctis IV, then installed Noctis III over it, tried to do the inbox, and when it wouldn't work he downloaded Noctis II over 3 and so on, each time complaining that the inbox wouldn't work. It took him hours to mention he was doing this. :3=

So, are we going to continue to send the outboxes to the place specified in the manual, or is there another place for them?

You should use the TELL US button you see in the top bar.
The manual still presents a link to a previous incarnation of this website. Hopefully others will figure that out: 'Tell Alex' and 'Tell us' should both convey the idea that they serve the same purpose

Noctis IV manual said:
To submit your data, first run the OUTBOX module from your GOES console. This compiles all your new data into a file called "outbox.zip" in the "data" subdirectory. Then just send this file to Fottifoh, at the address http://anywherebb.com/tellalex.html.
