I for one (and probably many others) say that we should bring back the cannon from noctis 2. I understand the Felasians are a peaceful race, but there are such things as useless planets, and that cannon would be perfect and much more practical than say, creating a miniature black hole. Besides that, it is good way to keep the galaxy clean of things such as asteroids. To make it more realistic, why not require the input of a password to use it or even the ability to destroy stars. Wait, no, that would cause a shedding of the outer layers, otherwise known as a supernova.

I would be grateful to please get some feedback, and do not regard this as begging, but a suggestion.

An obvious problem though...
>Someone would probably destroy Balastrackonastreya and Fenia.
>We'll need to wait for Noctis V(and Alex's approval) if we want any major new feature.

by the way, shedding of the outer layers would usually result in a planetary nebula; supernovae require core-collapse or over-accretion of material around a white dwarf...right?

Why would they be in the game then? I'm sure that there's someone who likes barren planets. For one thing, everyone (more or less) in real life wants to see the moon, but that's just a lump of rock. Planets are facinating for more than just their looks.

Besides, while we're at it, we can say the entire universe is useless. Let's get rid of it. But just because something has no use, doesn't mean it should be removed.

For example, I recently got a giant Chinese coin. It does nothing but sit on my desk. I occasionally play with it, but I can keep my hands occupied with a pen just as easily. Even so, I won't get rid of the coin.

I've thought of this before, and my view is that it could potentially work if implemented in a very restricted manner. Being able to fire the cannon should be a rarity that most don't get the chance to experience first hand. It would be more of an Easter egg than anything.

Ideally, the cannon would require a single-use power cell or activation key to fire. These would be very rare, and come in the form of artifacts scattered in the ruins of the Felysian homeworlds. It might also be possible to find one at the crash site of a stardrifter on another world. Either way, most explorers wouldn't encounter them, and even someone actively searching for one would have to spend many hours treasure hunting before locating one.

This would need to be put in place to prevent someone from going around destroying dozens of worlds in one area. Further, the onboard computer would check the guide and prevent the destruction of any named planets. It might also scan the target planet for signs of life, and prevent the destruction of any planets bearing life.

That's what the community sequel, Noctis Twilight is for. Alex may very well get back to making a Noctis sequel of his own eventually, but he has other projects he'd like to work on as well. In the mean time, we can build our own Noctis.

A very good solution, cryoburner. You should present that to the creator

Ha. Actually, I forgot all about it.

I love the fact that I have finally been here long enough to forget things...

Hey! Your coin is bigger! Grrr....

Oh, yeah. Topic.
The cannon would at least need to look awesome. You could go to all the trouble of finding one of those cells or whatever and save it for when you're really angry, only to fire and be thoroughly dissappointed at the pitiful pop the planet makes.

/me shakes the solution's hand.

Hm... in general, I had an intriguing idea for Noctis V, that perhaps was never mentioned. It was about directly fiddling with the stardrifter's electronics, altering circuits to eventually unlock hidden features; and one of those could be the fationic cannon.

You know, that's a very workable idea. Reducing the cannon to easter egg status would placate trigger-happy players (at least to some degree), whilst limiting the amount of chaos they could cause.

I guess the locations of crystals/crash sites would need to random though, and unique to each player's instance of the Noctis universe. Otherwise, over time, a "master list" of crystals could be compiled, allowing new players to fly directly to all the known crystal locations and build up enough supplies to wipe out as many barren lumps of rock as they please.

well, I hope that cannons damage would be only a fake, or we would risk to have the same planet destroied in an outbox file and named as new discover in another one.. : P
(parallel universes? galaxy fork? : P )

Unless, there is only one crystal at each site. Or perhaps the planet re-forms from the rubble. That would mean you can have fun blowing up a particulary boring planet again and again. Also, anyone who actually likes the planet wouldn't have to lose their notes.

Although, the reformation would probably take a few days or something. But that, too, would be awesome to watch.
