but i'd like you to, for a moment, imagine that this man was raising your banner(knowing all you know about americans and their idea of freedom).

that's how I feel about the moon landing

To NASA: "Lier lier pants on fire hangin' on a telephone wire!"

Thats what i feel. Maybe there is a thin athmosphere but its not thick enough for making a banner wave in the winds.

On the other hand, you could say that there is not enough gravity for the banner to fall down.

I also think i once heard that they accounted for that by putting a wire in the top edge of it to keep it up.
Could maybe be the cause of the bottom waving, and not the top.

There was a pole to hold it out, and since there IS no atmosphere, every little movement causes the flag to move and then stop. That's leaving the ripples that make it look like it's waving. Myth Busters did a whole moon landing episode and actually went to NASA and used a vaccum chamber to prove that's what caused it.

Myth Busted.

Conspiracies apart and settled, it was a great adventure. For the first time human beings abandoned Earth gravitational field (mostly) and visited another world. It's awe inspiring to this day, and I can't wait until anybody repeats it.

Take a look at this RealVideo clip:

http://www.hq.nasa.gov/alsj/a11/a11v.1100950.rm

It shows how the astronauts are setting up the flag. There's a lot of hassle with it, and one of the astronauts seems to be adjusting and stretching the flag itself. After they finish deploying it and walk away, there is no movement.

Anyway, do you know the Apollo Lunar Surface Journal? It's an amazing site, with enough material, text, photos and movies, to last for years of reading and watching.

Yeap. The transcript for the Apollo 11 landing looks like a showcase for Murphy's Law. : ) By the way, the folks at HBO who wrote the series "From the Earth to the Moon" followed this text to an eerie degree (abridged and dramatized, this is TV) for the Apollo 11 chapter.

And here is probably more than you ever needed to know about the flag's design and operation. : )

The Kingdom of Lochac, on the moon! (That's the name of the australian Society for Creative Anacronism. In other words, a medieval recreation society.)

Whenever I hear stuff from people like that, I think of Buzz Aldrin punching Bart Sibrel in the face and I laugh.

Man that was a good episode.
I'm pretty sure most of the things they tested are enough to silence all but the most extreme conspiracy theorists.
