| | | | I've tried using this, but it locks up completely when I try to chose a star. Any idea what might be causing this? Also, when I try to use the GOES net, it keeps giving me a message that I don't have sufficient memory... | | | | |

| | | | Are you trying to play NICE, vanilla Noctis, or NIV+? | | | | |
| | | | NICE always whines about memory. | | | | |
| | | | I've tried all three, and get the same result. I wouldn't have thought that memory would be an issue... | | | | |
| | | | Memory is only an issue because these are DOS apps, and are only able to access 640 kB of memory at most. The exact amount of available memory can vary based on DOS drivers and other things resident in that limited memory. Noctis left some room to spare, but NICE requires a bit more.
When you say it 'freezes' when you go to choose a star, do you mean that everything completely freezes at you aren't able to move, or you just aren't able to access any of the controls within the stardrifter? When chosing a target, you need to point at it and double-click, so make sure you're doing that.
If you are experiencing out of memory errors, you might try the Windows port of Noctis IV CE (DWNoctis). It's no longer 'supported', is incompatible with the standard star map, and has some additional bugs, but it should get around the DOS memory limitations.

| | | | Thankyou for you reply! Yes, I have been using the DWNoctis.exe version in the meantime. It works rather well, though, as you noted, does have some bugs. The main reason I wanted to try to get the boot working was to be able to play the original as it was intended. As for the 'freezes' it would probably be beneficial of me to clarify: Upon clicking 'select remote target', the game then fails to operate correctly. It freezes temporarily, and then minimal mouse function returns. If I try to look left or right, it jerks around in unintended directions, and then freezes again. Attempting to double click a star is completely inoperable. I'm not too upset about it, I've been playing Noctis on and off for about 5 years now, and on my previous machines it worked. I finally decided to connect with the community, but won't be able to contribute much without a supported star map. Thankyou all for your support! | | | | |
 | | | | Same thing happens to me.. Any ideas anyone? I've finally managed to get the game working again after two years with a win7 pc.. (I run it on my EEE with Eeebuntu, on which I figured it would work after the release of the boot disc.. And it sort of does.. My HP win7 won't allow for selective booting...) | | | | |
| | | | It turns out that I can fix the bug by moving slowly when "browsing" stars.. The GOES.net works with a small delay.... Omg I'm back in Noctis! Soo sweet | | | | |

oh no was that a one-word post oh no oh no maybe emoticons count as words too
| | | | I got the game working with the disk image for my 8gb stick, but the problem is that my mouse wont work, i cant control my character, any idea? | | | | |
| | | | Does the DOS distribution used for the Noctis boot disk include a USB mouse driver?
Most motherboards include an option for legacy USB mouse and keyboard support, so that the motherboard can report their input as if it came from the mouse port. Enabling this in the BIOS will likely fix the problem, if it isn't enabled already.
| | | | The legacy usb thing is enabled on bios, and a CuteMouse driver appear to be installed in COM1 when i boot on the usb stick on dos. | | | | |
