| | | | Wheee! Another sports thread, isn't even on the second page. But I do believe that many more of us care about soccer than about winter sports.
The 2010 World Cup hosted in South Africa is about to begin in some 15 hours. They say it's going to be an organizational failure (certainly not much more than the upcoming Euro 2012, but never mind), but I only care about the actual matches. So, who are your favourites?
As for me... Poland didn't make it, only beating San Marino in the qualification group, so I can temporarily drop patriotism and support Germany, as I did since World Cup 2002. And I wish all the best for the national teams of Australia and New Zealand. They can both make it to the second stage.
Personal sympathies aside, Brazil or Spain are very, very likely to win this World Cup and I don't see any other clear favourites. I don't mind Brazil, but Spain only recently beat Poland 6:0, so hopefully they don't make it out of their group.

 | | | | My favorite is whatever team catches on fire and causes everything related to soccer burns along with them, and it causes no one to play the sport again :3= | | | | |

| | | | I wish for Italy to fail in the most humiliating way possible. | | | | |

| | | | The England flags are in evidence. It must be time for the team to fail dramatically. | | | | |

| | | | Oh, such negativity! But yes, England keeps failing on big tournaments since times immemorial (or rather 1960s), so it's very possible. | | | | |

i do my own stun-- avatars |

 | | | | People keep saying "Oh, the world cup is starting." I ask "What world cup?" and they look at me weirdly and never actually answer the question.
Thank you for telling me.

| | | | I'd like to be able to watch tomorrow's match with US vs England.
It's just a bit too early in the evening for me to reach some friends and watch it together, it starts right when I will have finished having dinner. I'm going to see if we can organize to meet and dine together.
I'll support England, but if the team plays really bad and US play a good game I may easily switch for US. That's because I like to see a good game, and when a team is slacking I want them to lose.

| | | | I support The Netherlands, we got a good change to come far this time. Our team got a good offense, that must make it up for our mediocre defense. | | | | |
|
| | | | So, what do they do at this "World Cup"?
I assume they play badminton, or something?
|
| | | | Maybe that ball in cup game? | | | | |

| | | | Yes... Obviously, England couldn't beat the USA. Everything's going according to the plan so far. | | | | |

| | | | Oh yes, New Zealand - Italy 1:1. I'm very happy with New Zealand's performance. Neuzd probably likes them now, too. | | | | |
