Hello, as some of you might have noticed (specially Jam and Mango that are regular visitors), my site keep having MySQL failures.
I need a new host, but clearly I have no idea on how to choose a good one...
Someone can help me with that? I need to host my company site, my mother company site (www.sparkfix.com.br) some open source projects of my father (including the very nice PHP-SDL to make SDL games with PHP), e-mail redirection or hosting or something (currently @agfgames.com redicts to my personal g-mail account, I need to learn how to make professional-like e-mails while still using g-mail interface that I really like), and custom DNS subdomain system (for example irc.agfgames.com that redicts to irc.esper.net).
Even better if I can host my own IRC stuff (my current host even irc-related downloads are banned).

I'm quite happy with IX Web Hosting. Via the online chat, they're very responsive to my irate and petulant demands after a long night's coding. It suddenly occurs that they might be even more responsive if I were less irate and less petulant ...
So, yes. Recommend them. Not sure what their approach to IRC is though.
ah didn't learn anything!

If you're comfortable administering your own server, you can get a cheap OpenVZ VPS for less than the cost of an awful shared hosting package.

I thought of that, but I am not sure if I can administer a server at all (although I am used to Unixes, it is mostly as user, I does not even know how to use vi or emacs, relying on mcedit instead... also the closest I had to administer a daemon was a local apache for testing, 6 years ago...)
