Hello everyone. Now that I see inboxes are being put out again I think its time I went exploring again.

I'll be sure to check in and post about any new discoveries.

In the mean time, I'm having trouble getting Noctis Mapper to run in Linux. I would very much like to get it working though. Any ideas?

Welcome back, then.
It would be nice if you can remind us of your previous "incarnation"...I mean if you already had a profile here and such.

The flow of starmap submissions anyway is very slow and slowed down even more lately, no need to rush your labeling.

Another user has recently complained about NoctisMapper on Linux, but he didn't show up again after I tried to get more informations from him.
NoctisMapper is a Java program, I would guess that the console has some informations about the crash, or whatever your problem is.
Can you detail us what's going wrong?

I would love to help.

I was previously known as Pwin but since I've going through some very life changing events. Quite literally really. A bit of personal evolution I guess.

I also expected it to work just fine being that it is a Java program. So I was also pretty confused when it didn't work.

I should note that I had a hard time figuring out what file to use. So I tried using multiple files. The first one I tried was the .jar file.

Using Sun Java 6 Runtime. Since .jar is not automatically opened by Java I right clicked and chose open with Sun Java 6 Runtime. Nothing happens. Same with OpenJDK java Runtime.

When trying to run it through a Root Terminal I get this:
bash: /home/sebastian/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/noctismapper (2)/NoctisMapper.jar: No such file or directory

(It IS in a .wine directory but I'm not attempting to run it through wine since it should run fine on Linux.)

I also tried:
root@sebastian-laptop:/home/sebastian# java '/home/sebastian/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/noctismapper (2)/NoctisMapper.jar'
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: /home/sebastian//wine/drive_c/Program Files/noctismapper (2)/NoctisMapper/jar

at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:266)
Could not find the main class: /home/sebastian/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/noctismapper (2)/NoctisMapper.jar. Program will exit.

I thought I might be trying to execute the wrong file. So i also tried using the .lnk file.

bash: /home/sebastian/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/noctismapper (2)/NoctisMapper.lnk: cannot execute binary file

And using the Java prefix:
root@sebastian-laptop:/home/sebastian# java '/home/sebastian/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/noctismapper (2)/NoctisMapper.lnk'
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: /home/sebastian//wine/drive_c/Program Files/noctismapper (2)/NoctisMapper/lnk

Sorry for the long post. ^^" Just trying to be as detailed as possible.

See? With enough info it's easy to find the solution.
Running a java program archived in a jar requires the user to use the -jar option.

java -jar NoctisMapper.jar

In your specific case it should look like this:
/home/sebastian# java -jar '/home/sebastian/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/noctismapper (2)/NoctisMapper.jar'

The readme.txt file should have helped you out : P

It looks you got a pretty big change over there, if I got it right. That's only good if you're more confortable with your new self.

Behold my failed attempt at clever subtlety. ^^"
But yes, much more comfortable.

I did read over the readme but didn't see any mentioning of that.

*reads readme*

I understand now. It was the "in a DOS prompt" that threw me off. ^^"

Will give that a try. Thanks for your help!

--A few minutes later--

Sorry, but I still can't get it to start up.

Using:
/home/sebastian# java -jar '/home/sebastian/.wine/drive_c/noctismapper/NoctisMapper.jar'

No error messages, but nothing happens either. (<--I have to get used to this emote. It implies anger when I meant it to be more of an 'oops' face)

Edit:
For anyone having problems running this in Linux you may have to use the Terminal to get it to run. Navigate to the NoctisMapper folder and open NoctisMapper.jar witht he command:

java -jar NoctisMapper.jar

This worked for me at least. Thanks Neuzd for your help. ^^
