| | | | A new "hard sci-fi" MMO game was announced by Mojang today.
Oh wait, what http://0x10c.com/
Year 0x0001000000000000 + 1998? Emulated computer? Multiple nerdgasms?
    !!!!!11111
On a side note.
Some of you guys may've heard about Blockade Runner, a game inspired by Minecraft featuring fully destructible space ships and asteroids (and quite possibly, planets too). It's in early stages, so nothing much of a world to see yet. Then you probably know of Starbound, which is basically (and technically) Terraria set in space, with procedural planets and life. So, again, blocks. Rumors say they came up with this game after Terraria was abandoned (was it really?)
So, my bet is, 0x10c will be blocky too, if not tile-based. What with all these plans that could possibly put some seasoned dwarves to hard shame. Or... not.

| | | | I think it's not strictly MMO...

Also, duct tape? Watch out, quack-emitting domestic fowl.

| | | | Starbound looks VERY sweet... and nice, and the sort of game I really love =D
And Notch game I am only curious for now...
|
  | | | | I heard about this yesterday. It sounds like another somewhat derivative space trader game, following more or less what other space trader games already do. Nothing described seemed to really stand out from say, EVE or Infinity. Unlike those games though, we can fully expect them to start selling it in a mostly incomplete state, and likely never really make a finished game out of it. : P
Starbound looks like it has the potential to be good, but unless they far-expand on what Terraria did, it will just be a re-skinned Terraria with some new features. I guess that's not necessarily a bad thing though, since exploring different planets could add a lot to gameplay variety. It does sound like they're adding a stronger quest structure as well though.
As for Terraria being 'abandoned', I suppose that's referring to the announcement a month ago that Terraria's development is largely done, with its developer focusing on a new project now. He mentions there that part of the reason was because his sprite artist left to work on another competing project, which happens to be Starbound. For the most part though, I'd say Terraria is arguably a mostly 'complete' game, so calling it 'abandoned' probably isn't entirely accurate. Certainly, there will always be room to add features in a game like that, but just because the developer isn't continuing to develop it doesn't mean it can't be considered feature-complete, as far as official development goes. I do think there's still room for the developer to polish things like the menus, server connectivity and so on though.

   | | | | The 0x10c screens (on the forum for it) remind me of Noctis. | | | | |

EVE, on the other hand, have never offered seamless space-planet transitions (as of yet) and in-game programmable computers.
Anyway, first screenshots... thingy:

That looks painfully familiar.

| | | | Starbound also seemly take stuff from Noctis (ie: the randomly generated planets seemly will also use Noctis-style seed, so you can share a location of a planet and everyone can visit it and see the same things). | | | | |

| | | | I just hope he doesn't try to make an mmo written in java, I'm not quite sure of its capabilities | | | | |
|
| | | | Well Wurm did it... >_> Actually he worked on Wurm for quite a while too | | | | |

| | | | Notch is one of the engineers of Wurm modifieable terrain...
In Java :/
Why Notch must code in Java? Seriously? He make awesome stuff (Wurm is awesome too) but... in Java?

| | | | Awwwwwwwww how cute! it even has a little light in the corner, and a working goes network! Maybe this was not written in java, but linoleum... | | | | |

| | | | The drifter has also a disco setting. Maybe for when you are waiting for a new supply of lithium. | | | | |
|
| | | | ... I meant, it looks like the Stardrifter a bit ... | | | | |

| | | | That is very reminiscent of the Stardrifter. And 0x10c naturally makes me think of 0x44. I thought how it would be cool if Notch came and talked (and listened) on this forum about his game, then I realized that would mean a population explosion and mass degradation of AnyNowhere. | | | | |
