Hi everybody! Noctis sounds like it could be good, but unfortunately, I have a problem. I have Windows 7, and the original Noctis can't run. I have the Windows port of NICE, but when I run it, it runs in a window that appears to be about 4 inches square! I can't see a thing! PLease help!

There's a number of solutions for this. One that's likely to work if it's a newish computer is VNoctis; you can use VirtualBox's scaling mode to increase the window size. If that doesn't work, The USB boot disk I put together might do it, though it requires you reboot your computer, leaving your primary OS behind temporarily while playing.

Sorry... but how do you set the Virtualbox thing up for VNoctis?

Once you have VirtualBox installed, you just hit the big new button and follow the wizard:

The new VM wizard
Selecting the OS type
Selecting the hard disk image

I've omitted a couple steps where you just click next. Once you're in the virtualized DOS, you can type noctis, nivplus, or nice to run the corresponding variant. Also, you can hit right control + C to go into scaling mode, where you can resize the window to a comfortable size.

Do I need a copy of the OS to install to the virtual machine?

No, just download the file at the link I gave earlier and extract the .vdi, using it as the hard disk image as shown.

Boot disk is much easier.

Alright, I set up the machine, but when I attempted to turn it on a message came up that said:

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Vnoctis Correct.

Failed to open image 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Vnoctis\vnoctis-freedoss.vdi' for writing due to wrong permissions (VERR_VD_IMAGE_READ_ONLY).

Failed to attach driver below us! Image is read-only. (VERR_VD_IMAGE_READ_ONLY).

PIIX3 cannot attach drive to the Primary Master (VERR_VD_IMAGE_READ_ONLY).

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)

You can't put the image somewhere that you don't have write permissions. Try putting it in Documents and making the VM again.

Haven't played Noctis is ages, but now that I have Windows 7, I'm gonna try and get it running. This thread has been really helpful. Hopefully it won't be too hard to get working.
