Welcome explorer, have fun.
Hello and good things.
Just out of intellectual curiosity, what system are you using to run NIV+?... since many people are having a problem using the "wonderful and modern" new computer technology to run an "ancient technology" DOS program.

A crappy laptop with Windows XP running. I managed to get it to run on compatibility mode under the Windows 98 setting.
For some reason, DosShell didn't see it as Dos.

Windows XP use windows NT kernel.
Windows 95 and 98 used DOS Kernel (Windows 95 is just DOS with the Windows pretty interface stuffed on it)
Noctis is a DOS game, it runs easier on Windows 98 than on XP (or any other NT windows).
I have two tower-of-powerless computers both run Win XP. The one has Home Edition, and won't run Noctis (or anything else DOS- Win 95 compatibility and Win 98 compatibility means nada, zero, zilch, nothing.) But it runs my old Windows astronomy software, so it has some purpose.
The other has Service Pack 3, runs Noctis and DOS programs like a champ without any compatibility mode use.
As for Noctis being a "DOS game", well that's why DosBox is slow, afaik...something to do with "random hacks", etc. The more knowledgeable here can explain that.
